Friendship First, Then Let's See...

I Would Describe Myself As

So who am I and what do I want? Oh dear! That's the ultimate question! Perhaps the only completely non-negotiable thing is this; I want a non-smoker. This year I'm planning to turn my life around. I'm taking active steps to return to work after a period of ill health and, to go with this, I'd like a new, emotionally healthy relationship, to help me learn to trust again. I'm looking for friendship at first and I may wish to take my time moving on to something further, but I do ultimately want a relationship. I like tall men, because I am also tall, but I'm not overly bothered if I'm a little taller. I'm wary of making pre-judgments about physical appearance, as they can cut both ways. I am (and my preferred partner would be) over forty and consequently a little 'worn' by life and circumstance. In my case, I have arthritis and walk with a stick. Mind you, a friend did comment that I manage to make it look like an accessory, rather than a mobility aid! I'm attracted to what's going on in a man's mind. I don't necessarily mean book-learning (although intelligence is nice), but mental attitude. All too many people have formed their opinions and are no longer open to any further discussion. I consider myself to be constantly learning. I have values and standards, but my opinions are always open to revision in the light of new information. I like a man who can also think flexibly. I think loyalty and friendship in a relationship are the two most important things. My friends tell me I am kind and a good listener; I strive to live up to that kind assessment. I would wish to be treated as an equal, not as a possession. I'm independent and used to problem-solving and acting autonomously; I'm better at giving help than accepting it, my friends say. That's something that the right man may help me to soften, but not eliminate entirely. My interests include, but are not limited to, theatre, cinema, music, reading. I can cook and sew, but not make flowers grow. Despite my walking stick, I like walking, though not hiking. The right man need not share my interests; he need only tolerate them as part of me. Likewise, I'll tolerate any sport addiction you may have. Compromise and mutual respect are the keys to success. Is that a long enough wish-list? Does this paragon exist? Is it you?
