An ideal first date would occur only after I'd talked with the woman I was going on the date with for long enough to understand what she really enjoyed and how those interests coalesced with mine.
The perfect date is hard to describe because, while some of its features are clear to me, such as its beginning in the mid-afternoon and ending near midnight, the quick-growing intimacy between my partner and I, the merging of our interests and desires at a mid-point depends on what she would want and be interested in.
As an outline, I could picture this date beginning at the beach, with a picnic at the coast, moving into the city for a drink, then maybe a play or movie or comedy club, dinner, and a long, slow walk in Westwood, or along the Boardwalk in San Diego, or the Jack London pier in Oakland (depending on where we happened to be).

I won't lie: I'm attracted to good-looking women. That said, I don't think one kind of person is ultimately attractive: I think there are attractive women who are short, tall, curvy and thin. This extends to culture and ethnicity, of course, as well.
I'm attracted to intelligence, a broad perspective on life, boldness and ambition. I also value people who are deeply empathetic, an overlooked trait that is probably more important to one's character than most of this other stuff combined.
